Tears for Fears is een Britse band bestaande uit het duo Roland Orzabal en Curt Smith (beiden geboren 1961). De naam is ontleend aan een Amerikaanse psychotherapeut die vond dat je je angsten moet overwinnen door je tranen de vrije loop te laten. Opgericht in de hoogtijdagen van de Britse "New Wave", begin jaren 80, hadden ze al gauw succes.
In 1983 verscheen hun debuutalbum 'The Hurting', in 1985 gevolgd door 'Songs from the Big Chair' (met hun bekendste nummer 'Shout'). Pas in 1989 verscheen hun derde album, getiteld 'The Seeds of Love'. Hierop zijn ook de Amerikaanse zangeres Oleta Adams en ex-Genesis-drummer Phil Collins te beluisteren..
In 1989 ging het duo uit elkaar om ieder een eigen muzikale richting in te slaan, maar in 2004 vond een hereniging plaats en er verscheen een nieuw album, 'Everybody Loves a Happy Ending'.
